Data of 3.7 crore customers leaked, revealed by T-Mobile
It is reported that the information of 3.7 crore customers of T-Mobile, a US telecom service provider, has been leaked. It is the second time in two years that hackers have leaked the information of postpaid and prepaid account customers. The company also informed that the investigation into the data leak case is underway.
This is the second major cyber attack the company has faced in two years. The hacking was identified on January 5 itself and the problem was resolved within a day. T-Mobile claims that no important data such as financial information of customers was leaked. Basic data like customer name, billing address, email and phone number are hacked. T Mobile added that it has started informing the customers affected by the hacking. The company has more than 11 crore subscribers.
A spokesman for the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) said that an investigation has been launched into the incident.Telecom companies have a responsibility to protect customer information. When they fail to do so, they will have to take action. The FCC is investigating the current hacking, officials said.
However, T-Mobile declined to comment on the FCC investigation. T-Mobile shares fell 1 percent in the stock market on Friday morning after the hacking news broke.
